I read first My Father's House while I waited for my copy of the Star of the Sea. With both novels I had to get used to each chapter spoken by or about different characters which renders the reading experience similar to that of a book of short stories held together by place in the former and ship in the latter. That said the stories are masterfully written and sometimes extremely moving.

Spell binding. Anything could be happening in that vast unwieldy landscape.
