Disappointed. The previews made me excited to watch this movie. The most exciting part for me was being able to see the culture of Columbia and amazing colors. However, the movie was rushed, no true villain was present, and the whole thing didn't have enough time to land solid on its feat.
The foundation for this movie has immense potential. The first 10 minutes were exciting and I was very anxious to see where it went next. Unfortunately, with Disney desiring money and creating less magic, the production seemed to be lacking time and energy to fulfill the potential the story had. Instead, it left me with a lot of questions, and my wife even said out loud at the end "that's it? I thought there would be more." The climax of the movie lasts a couple of minutes, isn't explained well, and makes me wonder who decided to green light the end of this film. If I were a producer, I wouldn't be proud of the final product of this film.
As Disney shifts it's gaze firmly on producing high quantity of content with little thought to quality just to gain more money, the value of production will continue to suffer. Movies with unique and inspiring concepts will continue to suffer (like Luca did) as Disney forges ahead to build their streaming platform and fill their pockets.
Disney, return to your roots as master story tellers no matter the cost. Bring back the magic!
