I don't know who could possibly think this movie is good. It is literally so awful, I don't even know where to start. The casting was horrible; I adore Ben Platt, but he did not need to play Evan. The directing was stiff and horrible; the line deliveries throughout the entire movie were just awkward. There was virtually no choreography, it was all walking. They cut songs and it changed the entire plot so Evan does not see any consequence for his action (I'm talking about Good For You in this example, but they also cut Anybody Have a Map. Arguably, these are 2 of the best songs in the OG soundtrack, in my humble opinion). And don't even get me started on the cinematography. There were so many camera cuts in Waving through a Window that I was having a panic attack with Evan. Overall, I wanted this movie to be really good, and originally defended Ben Platt reprising his role as Evan. But, seeing the movie, I think giving it one star is generous. I never write movie reviews, and I hate criticizing movies. But as someone who is an avid theatre kid and movie goer, this movie is absolute trash, as I'm sure you can tell about the cinematic elements I analyzed. I don't even want to get started on the trash storytelling and overacting that takes place throughout the whole film.
