Well what is advertised to be untold stories of American History, turned out to be just a collection of opinions and interpretations of events for the perspective of Mr. Stone. There appears to be as many holes in his collection of stories as there are in official american histories. Couple of examples mentioned in Chapter one, concern casualties. Although Mr. Stone got the numbers mostly right by all accounts, he left out some really important information. He indicates that 37 million Russians died during the conflict, but neglects to elaborate that 20 million of those casualties were committed by Stalin himself. He stated quick emphatically, that the citizens of Lenningrad refused to leave the city during the Nazi invasion, but failed to note that Stalin had issued orders, any citizens fleeing the cities would be shot.
This feels more like propaganda than history. Stone you're a wonderful director, stick to directing. Hollywood needs some real direction today to offset the sad remakes of old classics and rehash of bad B class movies which first aired in the 60's and 70"s. If you want truth, you'll need to seek it on your own. It is all out there, but no government or organization is going to print everything or compile it for easy review. There's just too much and as is human nature, like Mr. Stone, we tend to print what supports our point of view.
