I'm not a prude....far from it, but this movie felt like it was produced specifically for the enjoyment of the Director Yiorgos Lanthimos than for the audience itself. I have found that this Greek director uses a lot of unnecessary and gratuitous sex scenes in many of his movies and I am beginning to think that he might have his own agenda with his movie making. I think half the sex scenes including the lesbian scene could have been omitted..and definitely a few of the brothel scenes specifically the bondage scene. And I would like to ask for all those who disagree...what exactly did all these scenes prove exactly and what did they add to the movie. Yes...we got it, Bella had a sexual awakening but they turned her into a nymphomaniac, like being a sexual creature was all she was good for....how about all her other awakenings....including her spiritual and mental? The movie may as well have been shown in XXX Theatre with the headline Bella does Europe!!!! But then with a Greek director what do you expect??? Most Greek movies are soft porn anyway...but movies generally have lost their way and I crave for the days when award winning movies didn't rely solely on sex to get audiences in theatres...they relied on good writing and substance. This aspect totally ruined the movie for me....I didn't get the purpose and would have appreciated more substance and getting to know all the characters better that just seeing bare bottoms and body humping for 2 and a half hours...no kidding...hop on and see it for yourself if you dont believe me!!!
