Riverdale is an... interesting show. It's not super shallow like other people say or as stereotypical as other people say. It's also not a cinematic masterpiece, so don't go in expecting much. Like, it's better if you have zero expectations.
But the best thing is the self awareness that the show possesses. They know that they're crazy and a teen soap opera and plays it up. They make fun of Jughead's name which is the prime example. If you can't see that satire, then you can still enjoy the plot at face level.
Season one is definitely the best, the second season takes a dive off the deep end, and the third season starts on par with season one but has since followed the path of the second season. The musical episodes are pretty good.
