Sadly, this is probably one of the worst Call of Duty games I have ever owned. It’s truly a shame because I was really looking forward to a return to the black ops franchise that I loved so much. Black ops one and two are some of my favorite games that really pushed the boundaries when they came out. It’s truly unfortunate because this game had so much potential. The storyline and era are so intriguing, ripe with possible storylines and Easter eggs. However, this game is not worth $60. The fact that they have advertise this as a next generation game is truly sad. Last year’s game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare, looks like a perfect masterpiece compared to Call of Duty Cold War. Although I do not expect it to be perfect at launch, it is truly embarrassing that the Call of Duty franchise released a game that runs this badly. The inconsistencies with frame rate, graphics, user interface, and countless game crashing bugs ruin the entire experience. Not to mention the appalling iteration of skill-based matchmaking in multiplayer. Simply play one or two good games online and you will find yourself being head shot across the map by hackers.
Before I forget, let’s talk about Warzone. Unfortunately, there’s nothing really to say here because it’s simply the same game we have been playing for the last eight months. So why mention it at all? Because if you want to play Warzone on COD Cold War, you have to return to Call of Duty Modern Warfare. Why did I pay $60 just to be sent back to play a game I already owned?
In conclusion, don’t buy this game. I hate to be that assertive with my opinion but we as consumers simply should not condone a product this bad. The overall lack of content is appalling and at best this game feels like an alpha build. The continued issues of game crashing bugs and hackers is simply inexcusable. At the end of the day, I believe the only reason to purchase Cold War is for the zombies experience. But if that is the case, buy a used version of the game a month from now for $20. Who knows… Maybe by they will have fixed many of the issues, although it’s unlikely. I’m hoping the COD franchise will begin to realize that cranking out a new game every year is not always the best option. Another game like this and they will have lost another loyal customer.
