Chrispy Fellow

Long standing fan of the older games in the AOW series. For me it peaked at AOW 2: Shadow Magic. Theres a lot in this that reflects that but some of the modernisations, updates and change of setting (Now Sci-fi rather than high fantasy) add a degree of complexity and muddies the waters somewhat. My first attempt at playing this game I found it too much, features were hidden from me, UI was to simplistic and difficult to comprehend. However, I came back to it some time later to try again and after putting some hours into it I’m really starting to love it. I no longer see it as a distant cousin of the older titles but an alternative with alot of the same strengths and some really nice new features. Initial impression I would have scored 1, but thanks to my second wind and fresh eyes I see it for the potential it holds, you just have to grow into it a little. If like me you were put off initially give it another try, it may just click and become one of your regular and favourite games. I’m playing this on PS5 now and having a blast with it.
