An intensely suspenseful movie that left my nerves frayed for a couple hours after finishing it.
If your idea of a scary movie only involves gory messes, cheap jump scenes, and dumb sexually charged teenagers, then this isn't the movie for you. If you enjoy great acting, an original story, great cinematography, and being on the edge of your seat while wondering what is real and what isn't, then you should absolutely check this out.
If you liked "The Witch" then you will definitely enjoy this one. The bleak feel to the movie (and the setting) only adds to the tension that doesn't stop building until the very end. That being said, the ending left something to be desired, but it was still a satisfying ending to a rock solid movie.
Also, don't listen to most of the negative reviews on here. I see a lot of people saying that they had a hard time following the flashes between past and present. If your IQ is above room temperature, you can easily follow this story line.
FFS, I even see people upset about how a bucket and the carpets don't fit the era, talk about nitpicking... sheesh
