The casting of deniro underscores not only the reference to king of comedy but also taxi driver. Arthur is a version of Travis Bickle and i expected a bloodier outcome; the dramatic arc seemed to point to it. The motif with the repeated finger gun to the temple was out of taxi. Think the producers exercised some prudence but i left feeling something was missing. Great movie anyway.
