This show is INCREDIBLE and the representation is amazing!! It normalizes kids+adults who identify with the lgbtq+ community, and discusses important topics including trans rights and japanese internment camps in the us during ww2. I am amazed with how well this show has handled all these topics that media tends to leave out. This is a show that we should raise our youth on.
I want to commend the writers on two instances of lgbtq+ representation that I really liked. Both times, with a lesbian couple and a young boy, the show addressed their sexuality in a passing statement and it wasn't made into a big deal or anything. It was accepted in the show as normal and I LOVE THAT. Usually, any time a show has a gay or lgbtq+ character, their whole identity is their sexuality, or the whole show/movie is about their sexuality. While that is not necessarily all bad (because it shows the real struggles people go through), it's refreshing to see characters accept people of the lgbtq+ community as normal and not different.
