I consider myself fortunate that my wife discovered this show. I'm elderly, and frantic about the future, enough to concede I'm glad I won't be here. Like most older folks, I mostly talk about my health, and sometimes the "good old days" even though I don't really remember when they were.
'Home Town' has restored my optimism to a degree. I have always idealized what I think humans should be, and Ben and Erin have helped to renew my hope that humanity might survive. I believe they understand grandiosity should not have been allowed to smother common sense, nor bigheartedness. Sincerity and kindness are sacrificed when we only believe in: 'survival of the fittest'; it is contrary to diverse life. Our sun will become a 'Red Giant' in a few billion years, and Mars will be in the 'habitable zone'. It will create life by itself, we do not have to deliver it there. This planet could be an oasis of life; instead of a chaos of greed and selfishness, if we could only relearn love and humility. We have only one chance left here for self-realization, enlightenment, or even Heaven. Oh excuse me, I digressed. Finding a nugget of hope is extremely difficult these days, but I hold one in my hand, every time I view this show.
