I first read this book as a teenager, and have re-read it several times.
It is a sympathetic version of the life of Anne Boleyn, forced to give up
her first love, Henry Percy, to marry King Henry VII. Unable to give
Henry a son, she is falsely accused of adultery so that he may marry
someone else. Threatened with a terrible death, she stood firm to
assure the succession of her daughter Elizabeth as Queen of England.
More recent books have cast Anne as a villain, but this book demonstrates that she was the first victim of the murderous Henry VII.
