Some huge wins:
1) It was refreshing to play a video game with main characters who are part of minority groups. The first character Ellie, is not only a woman, but a lesbian. I felt that they did an excellent job with the small talk (flirtation), and I was really invested in the storyline.
2) there’s trans representation in this game which was nice to see; I’ve never seen this before.
3) the other main character, Abby, is a very muscular straight woman (unlike the review that calls her trans that many gamers are copy and pasting on google reviews). She is a minority in the gaming world as most women are skinny with large breasts.
4) the graphics and storyline were captivating and kept my attention to the very end.
***Spoiler alert ***
Dislikes:
1) I could not see why Ellie abandoned her family to go after revenge for Joel. It made the character difficult to like in the end. Why was she unable to put herself in Abby’s shoes? Joel killed Abby’s father and many others to save Ellie. Abby killing Joel made them even in my opinion. This all consuming hatred and need for revenge that Ellie felt, to the point of abandoning her own family, was too much for me.
2) I found some of the gameplay nauseating because of the jarring movements and need for the flashlight to be on all the time. Also, I’m more keen to play open world games, so I felt like I was forced to take 1 path. It was nice that they gave me the hints because I used them a number of times.
Overall, this game was worth playing. It was unique, and had beautiful graphics. I’m happy to see minorities represented in the gaming world finally. Well done naughty dog.
