I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has ever heard of Greek Catharsis. Ancient Greek tragedy dramas provided a safety valve for the wise men of Athens, from the trivialities of everyday life. I am writing this review, a night after I watched the movie and it still lingers in my mind, bittersweet. Sean Penn has now officially become my favorite actor. You'll know what a great actor he is, if you had tried to reanimate his on-screen moments as a tough hard case father who just lose his 19 year old sweet daughter. I know, I tried acting and failed miserably. Nevertheless, it had imbibed on me the process of telling stories. If you're an aspiring writer, movie maker, or ventured into any creative activity, this is a must watch for the art of story telling. Its gripping, hard-hitting, thrilling, makes you sad, whimper, question the intricacies of life, sometimes make you cry and think about how the Godess of luck could just wave her wand and how perfectly the perfect things in the established scenario that is life, changes all in a shed of moment. Luck and Coincidence, is a theme which is recurring through out the movie. Always the question of 'What if...', 'Instead of him...', is being directed by the characters to each other and often the audience also end up asking the same question of 'What if..something happened this way..instead of this... and everything would have worked for everyone in the equation'. But if this movie reminds us of anything, it is that unfortunately life doesn't work that way and the fortunes of time and place could easily be toppled by an act of God or devil.
Be warned- Absolutely not for the faint hearted and It's not a feel good movie or suspense thriller but is one hell of a movie ride.
