With this cast, the original source material--the brilliant Thomas Savage book, and of course a return to the screen of Jane Campion, I had high hopes. The movie is beautiful and the performances grade A, but I ultimately found the overall film underwhelming.

I clearly watched a different film than the reviewers because what I saw was full of plot holes, cheap “thrills” and the most obnoxious protagonist I’ve seen in DECADES! This film is merde!
