This period piece is not at all what I imagined as I tapped the thumbnail on Hulu, but it did not disappoint!
Beautifully shot, with a gorgeous soundtrack and awesome casting, the two-piece plot had me satisfied by the close of its just over 2-hour runtime. Joaquin as the hot-headed freewheeling Charlie Sisters wasn’t his best, but he was enjoyable during the few vulnerable scenes he had. I saw the Joker before seeing this film, so I glimpsed the destination the he was headed toward temporally in this film. John C. Reilly as the older, gentler Eli Sisters was the heart of the movie. Definitely felt the closeness and protectiveness of a older brother.
Jake Gyllenhaal was ever so thoughtful in his role, a definite difference from his role in Velvet buzzsaw recently.
In all, it was charming, moving and I would watch again.
