They tried to rewrite a classic to shoehorn in speeches about political points that were already in the text, but were apparently too subtle for these cretins to spot. Edited out the exciting bits to focus on some dull, middle-class sap and his bit on the side. The whole thing is a sorry, stagnant dreary mess. Even Spielberg did better.
