John Wick 3...
Spoiler ahead... Beware...
John Wick was a breath of fresh air from all the Bourne movie copies, which was becoming so tiring to watch. And John Wick 2 was very, very, very good, absolutely on par with the first movie's magic. So, I was a little worried about this movie, but man they delivered, and they did it all the way.
There are a few action scenes and movie elements that I would like to address.
1. John Wick's fight with 'The Raid 1 & 2' action stars.
I must say, I was dreading this fight, and how it was done, but they surprised me. The Raid movies' action stars are actually martial artists, they are not actors who have learned how to perform stylised martial arts, no, they are martial artists who have learned how to act. There's a huge difference between the two types of people.
From the very beginning of the fight, it was painfully obvious that John cannot match either of them in terms of speed, and manoeuvrability, especially in their tag-team format, John was quickly defeated twice. But they kept giving him chances to get up and fight as they wanted a proper challenge from 'the Baba Yaga'.
And this is where John's physical durability and adaptability gets ahead of the two fighters. John uses his belt to combat the two close combat weapon users. With his belt, he has excessive reach, something those close combat fighters can't afford, once he uses that to stop the two from using their weapons effectively, he gets a hold of them and doesn't let go. Then it becomes painfully obvious that those two can't cause much physical damage via punches and kicks to someone who has 100 pounds on them. It was like two featherweights trying to punch a heavyweight, whereas each of John's attacks hurt them a lot. John just endures through the brawl and then, in the end, brute forces them into submission.
2. Bike Chase with Zero's men.
This one simply blew my mind. I have no words for this one, at all. But unlike I predicted, they made it so that John was wrecked by the time he reaches the Continental. The bike crash and near-death made John vulnerable to death, which made everything so much cooler from then on.
3. Shooting underwater scene.
John kills one of the High Table's hitmen underwater. They both fall in, and before the hitman can shoot John, he swims away and puts some distance between them underwater, so when the hitman shoots the bullets don't reach John. But when the hitman exhausts his bullets, John swims closer and shoots the guy point blank.
Scientifically, this is how bullets work underwater, they lose their energy in such a flexible medium. That was very, very realistic.
4. New York Continental Deconsecration.
Loved it. Simply loved it. I was under the impression that no business can be conducted on the Continental grounds, which will lead to the conductor's membership be revoked.
So, after John Wick 2, I was wondering what would happen if John hid somewhere that comes under the definition of Continental grounds, so even if he is no longer a member, then other hitmen cannot kill John too for fear of the same consequences either.
But they boldly changed that, it gave us the impression that even the Continental is not untouchable, that the High Table comes above all. The world-building in this movie is simply superb...
There are many more scenes that I would love to address, but I think I'll stop here, as I have made my point.
I recommend everyone to go watch the movie in IMAX, it's wonderful, spectacular and beautiful.
My rating 9.5/10...
