This show is great! They handle everything perfectly. The acting is great and brings the characters to life wonderfully, who have actual personalities. The main character, Syd, isn't just this boring vanilla "quirky" girl like in most teen shows. She looks like a real teenager, and deals with real teenage issues like anxiety, puberty, and sexual confusion. The other characters, Stan and Dina, are funny, have great banter, and have chemistry with each other and Syd, which makes for a great trio of characters.
The writing is great, and not to give too many spoilers, but the way Syd's powers can be interpreted as a metaphor of the depression that many teens struggle with is great. The show is funny and has great use of tools like foreshadowing and lampshading, and makes you relate the characters.
Another thing I Am Not Okay With This does really well is the LGBTQ+ representation. Unlike many Netflix shows that throw in a random lesbian kiss in the background or that one gay best friend cliche for "diversity", this show does a great job of crafting a queer main character. Her entire story arc isn't about coming out or figuring out her sexuality, it's just one of the many things she has to tackle, like most LGBTQ teenagers today. While it still touches on it, it does a great job of normalizing it as a thing that doesn't define her as a person.
All in all, I think I Am Not Okay With This is a great show that i highly recommend. It's ten times better than most teen shows you see today (The rating on Netflix is TV-MA but honestly I think it's appropriate for 13+, and they added the age rating because the main character is queer and, you know, heteronormativity), the writing, directing, and casting is 10/10, and while i'm still very bitter Netflix didn't renew it for a season 2, it's definitely worth a watch.
