Now that enough time has passed i feel i can give this 4 stars - though at the time i finished the last episode i was frothing at the mouth with all the departures from the book and concerns as to how the show runners could avoid going even further off-track in subsequent series.
Standing on it's own two feet though, the show has good production values, marred by some slightly questionable CGI here and there, and it's really carried a long way by an excellent performance from Rosamund Pike and the rest of the cast. That said, a couple of the acting performances were wanting, and nothing about it really felt stand-out. It doesn't have the production values of Game of Thrones, but it does a little better than the Shannara adaptation.
