This movie was advertised as a lighthearted romcom when it's more of a depressing philosophical drama. I wasn't bored, since I spent most of the film anticipating the clever twist that would make the movie worth my time. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed. And while the character's choices didn't always track, the actors did a good job, and Powell's different personas were very fun to watch. SPOILERS: Why one star? The movie's conclusion doesn't just argue that premeditated murder doesn't have consequences, it seems to say murdering someone (as long as they were something of a jerk) leads to a warm and fuzzy world of lasting happiness and the perfect family, with just a touch of "bad boy" energy left over from those silly coldblooded murders ;) It was Crime and Punishment without any of the elements that make Crime and Punishment such an intriguing read. Missed opportunity.

This may be my family's most favorite, and classic, movie ever. Imagine cheesy, swashbuckling, romantic and top-ten-quotable/quirky humor all rolled together in something that (I would say) is in its own genre. I feel like this movie may be one of the only proper on-screen fairy tales ever. If you haven't seen it yet, and have the time during quarantine (hopefully this review will date quickly), I think I might just recommend it. It's super quirky and was made in the late 1980s. Please don't watch it wrong, and expect it to be ordinary or like anything else you've seen. Princess Bride stands alone.

This is a fantastic movie! It handles hard(er) topics gracefully, similar to harry potter, and has a great message. But the story is very entertaining too. Reminds me of Newsies, in the ways that the main characters are complete opposites, but still have 10/10 chemistry. Tells kids and reminds me, that we can do things that haven't been done, and help others on their own journey of life at the same time.
