Okay after reading many of the reviews I have come to a conclusion. This movie may not be a great remake of the movie it is based on, or maybe it is better. Either way this movie should be expected to be a drama with under and overtones of dark truths that exist in many families. I wanted it in faith that Will Ferrell cannot produce a “bad” movie. This movie is just different than his others. It is a story about a family who suffers from bad communication, American habits, and sheds light on the reality of losing a parent. It carries a moral high ground in that we must be REAL about ourselves, our feelings and emotions and not shove things under the rug because they’re uncomfortable. The discomfort that is produced in this movie is parallel to the discomfort that we are bound to experience in our human lives. Avoidance, coping mechanisms, and sexual repression, and also loyalty. These concepts may be too real for the people who rate it 1 star and cannot stomach the fact that they may be numbing their traumas. It’s a well done movie and carries very important concepts, that I really appreciate in media. I don’t want to numb out and watch mindless comedy, I want to unpack the layers to our humanity in order to move toward a more harmonious way of living. Give it a watch and decide for yourself!
