I wouldn't compare the depth and soul and feeling this book emanates to the fluffy and happily ever after vibes of 'Simon vs The Homosapien' Agenda and 'Fangirl'. This book is much more than that.
I personally am very picky about books. This flew before me in a book search in my modern lit class. People say not to judge a book by its cover, but this cover captivated me first, before it's content. I saw a beautiful starry dusk, with two boys holding hands on a giant book, and it urged me to turn the book and read the info. At first, I thought 'man, another book about high school love (so silly)'. Then my teacher said don't just read the cover, read inside. and so I did out of obligation, but the first few pages pulled me in so fast that immediately took it home that day. By day 1 I had finished about 40 pages (not much, I know.). It left me goofy and touchy feely and in a trance just reading about two guys falling in love. Christina. Lauren knows how to write in the perspective of a high school so well that I could swear they were high school students themselves. Beautiful is the way to describe this book. absolutely beautiful. You would want to hold the characters' hand yourself and comfort them the best way you can, because there is so much heart and soul put into this book That you just cannot help it. It has been a day since i finished this book and i wish I was Tanner, who's narrator of the story. But beware, this book will make you shed a few tears.
