THIS IS JUST A CAMPAIGN REVIEW, MULTIPLAYER AND ZOMBIES WERE NOT GOOD IMO:
[spoiler warning]
Infinite Warfare's campaign is an interesting contrast from the traditional Call of Duty campaigns. Continuing Black Ops II's idea of side missions, it takes them and makes them actually quite fun to play, though they have little impact on the story (from what I could tell).
STORY: While somewhat predictable in nature, it's still a decent story. Characters are likable for the most part, with people like Ethan and Salter adding people that aren't cardboard cutouts.
GAMEPLAY: The combat in this game is decent. Not outstanding, but good enough that it doesn't stick out as being bad. Occasionally the space combat can be a bit wonky, with enemies aim-locking onto you before you know they exist. My only complaint about the combat is that the Specialist difficulty is quite interesting and challenging, but at times it is unbalanced. Missions like Operation Dark Quarry are a huge difficulty spike compared to the rest of the game, making it not fun and somewhat unplayable. The lower difficulties seemed good to me.
A FEW COMPLAINTS: In the specialist difficulty, there are times when scripted events cause you damage and you are forced to use a med-shot. While the continuity is nice, it is also a bit obnoxious. I only had one med-shot when one of these happened, and had to waste it because of something out of my control.
I wish that the side missions would have a noticeable impact on the story, other than item upgrades and such. While they are fun, I think they could have been tied into the story a bit better.
COMMENDATIONS: I really think this campaign is one of the better ones in the Call of Duty franchise. While everyone dying at the end was a bit obnoxious, it was done well and made somewhat believable as desperation turning into KIAs.
Reyes dying at the end was done very well and made me think about the campaign for a while after I had finished it.
Being able to listen to some of the logs at the end credits was great, and made me want to stay at the credits and listen, rather than immediately skip them and boot up zombies.
SUMMARY: Overall, this campaign connected with me. While the story was a bit predictable, it had some great, empathetic characters, and fun combat overall. Side missions added to the story and were fun to play. My only wish is that more people would appreciate it and give it a chance.
