Sometimes a Netflix or Red Box original makes it way to the big screen... Queen & Slim is definitely one of those films and sadly so. What a missed opportunity to explore the possibility of black justice in America. Let's recap...shall we?
You have "Queen" who supposedly is a Defense lawyer, on a Tinder date after losing what should have been a high profile case (since the accused was facing the death penalty) with a cat named "Slim". This "excellent" lawyer is so deflated after losing her prior case that she ignores the ultimate case in the history of cases invloving police shootings after she's shot in the leg (physical evidence) by a later revealed racist cop (motive) caught on the dash cam (visual evidence). Then there's Slim....the greenhorn who has -99 instinct, agreed to let a clerk hold his gun while attempting to rob the store for gas...oh...to fill up a custom truck they stole from a Sheriff. I could see them running to gather thoughts for a real viable plan to return & defend themselves instead of the predictable ending my girlfriend called when I suggested we watch this instead of her choice of movie. Like much of pop culture of today, this film will be soon forgotten instead of becoming an instant classic.
