Despite its complete conventionality of the dorky girl at school that is best friends with the brother of the almost untouchable guy (might I add who is Aussie) and how she is his girlfriend - sorry, more than that, a couple that is helplessly in love... I think the movie delves into the complete taboo notion of girl and guy friendships, it displays that ultimately, you can share an intimate, caring bond with a person of the opposite sex that is solely platonic, all whilst you have an affectionate love that consumes your mind.
As a girl, in her final year of high school, and in some what enduring the same adversity that Elle does (minus the hot boyfriend) the movie resonates to my soul of struggling to understand what I want to be. How indeed, it keeps me up at night and how it sits like a bag rocks that I carry around during the day. But why I actually like this movie so much, is because it emphasises that it is in not discovering what you want to be, but in fact who you want to be. And you know what, that isn't a really revolutionary concept, but its important one that I think humanity forgets exists. Its reminded me to be authentic, to just be freakin' me. To "let go".
