I would rate 0 if possible, and to all those who rated higher than 1, you apparently have never seen an actual movie. Those who have rated it a 5 out of pity to balance the ratings, shame on you.
To anybody who has compared it to the original and said it was on par or better, may you forever have a bad holiday season.
This movie was an utter waste of time.
The story was not good and forced. Typical kid-gets-left-behind, but for some reason had to make the burglars likable...so pretty much unjustified violence...all because or a "misunderstanding" that could have been very easily avoided, unlike the previous ones with a child protecting his home from unavoidable harm.
The reason why the violence was acceptable in the originals was because the "bad guys" were actually bad guys.
*Spoilers*
Instead, you have a couple trying to hold on to the life they have (and even though they should have called parents/authorities) are actually the party the majority of people will root for instead of a psycho child. The so called traps were so boring and not creative at all (if anything, closer to a PG version of Saw). Was too painful to call comedy. To sum it up, you have a not likable child, unjustified multiple attempted third degree murder, and very unintelligent adults. Which would have been fine if the movie was funny. Dialogue was nothing memorable, characters' execution of motives were confusing, ending was random, and to top it off with a bow, they tried to wrap it up with "warm family feels" at the end that simply just did not connect. The ONLY good part of the movie was Buzz's cameo and a funny background of Kevin pranking him every year since. Other than that an hour and a half of my life gone.... I'd rather watch mold grow.
