Don’t be dissuaded by some of the poor reviews. This is a story that needs to be told. I suggest reading J.D. Vances book.
I was impressed by the production of this true story. The acting was pretty real and intense. I found myself imagining if I were the child in this broken family. It is a truly thought provoking story. This is the story of so many Americans that we don’t always see. When we do it’s so easy to make assumptions, as if the rest of us are so above all that. The lesson here, for me, is ‘No. None of us are immune to the possibility of losing everything and spiraling down.’
J.D.Vance tells us of a child who has overcome a seemingly hopeless situation.
Was that partly because of who he is inside? Did Mamaw (portrayed brilliantly by Glenn Close) save him?
Look, this is a very real story that shakes us by the shoulders and says, ‘This is happening!’ The loss of potential in so many communities’ children should sadden us all.
This tough and enlightening story was very well portrayed by the actors, production quality...all that. Watch this movie.
