A better script would have made this a good show. If the characters were written well and weren't just existing as if this was just fulfilling a contract in a timeline and this is just cashing a fat check . It’s just not working at all.
Its almost as if he wrote a one woman show for Niecy with ai and made everyone else these camp npc’s. in ep 3 they bring up the serial killer(s) from am horror story ny. Like he didnt complete that line of thought. Then theres this christo dom erotica and supposedly scary scenes of this serial killer victims but it doesn't really connect as a story. I liked Travis acting more please but just in something better.
This one’s not here to be suspenseful or even interesting . I feel bad for niecy shes really stretching her acting muscles but for what? To drift off and imagine her dramatizing against cut out cardboard characters .on a stage with a spot and shabby set Like she’s been in a coma this whole time oooOOooo yawn .

It was Amazing for the budget. The attention to detail for this period piece is spot on. Good scary,Well written, just enough camp.

It was stylized trash. More like porn for basic tiki torch enthusiasts . Tilda Swinton was the only highlight but a genuine waste of so many talented peoples time. Including the great dog trainer. Im glad they all got a fat check from netflix but I was bored enough to look for coded wardrobe choices just to retain any interest.

Im going to spoil because I’m pretty sure who ever reads this will have already seen the movie and are seeking a review that touches on what they might be feeling right now. I didn’t take this movie as a comedy really . It actually tapped into a deep pain and rage that I will always carry. I thought Mulligan played the character of Cassie perfectly. This was a story about two lives ruined from the start. It was about loss rage guilt and a self destructive path that could have only ended as it did. The stylized scenes are designed perfectly to evoke a memory of other movies and characters in cassies head because everything she does to keep moving is based upon n research and references she can tether herself into reality.
She fears no repercussions she is perfectly sane and I believe any of her promises died with Nina. She is partially torturing herself with every act and you clearly see it . She feels nothing other than that rage.
Cassie takes no pleasure from any of the lessons she teaches the research she does. Even the relationship. She says earlier to her Boss she could easily go find a man and a life but she doesn’t want that. She only goes for Ryan because he has access to her ultimate target. She tosses the journal because she no longer needs the random men as her replacement for the end goal. Which I believe is why the ridiculous relationship montage with music and dancing etc another reference. I noticed her costumes . Ok the gidget pajamas with the ribbon the stripper nurse costume suicide squad the youtube make up tutorials and corporate outfit s the 70s outfit and living room that reminded me of the virgin suicides. All costumes meant to hint the end game.
The scenes with Cassie setting up and victimizing other women to teach this lesson really had me thinking. This wasn’t really about protecting other women. It was about playing out the trauma and guilt over and over.
She wasn’t there to save Nina but she was there to see the torture after. Once she got the video she was no longer distracted by the warmth of Ryan’s bed. She knew from the beginning he was complicit but until then she didn’t know how much the destruction of the love of her life Nina was a joke to everyone . It helped steel her resolve. Did you notice it wasn’t rage she expressed with Ryan? . She expected to die. As far as she was concerned her life ended with Nina.
I guess I experienced this movie a little differently than others might have. It reminded me of my own trauma and that really dark place I avoid to continue functioning. The movie exposed that and Im sitting with it with a sick feeling in my stomach. To me this wasn’t a comedy.

Judas and the black Messiah was really well done. A historical drama that speaks to us today.

Im sorry I Forgot to mention Betty. She’s so great. Carried this film.
I thought it was hilarious but was left wanting more lines from the hunted. Decent satire ridiculous gore. Spent a little too much time on some scenes and not enough in others.
Fun time if you are a jaded by the times as I am
