Zen Kuriyama

A brave, heroic film. This movie was never going to please everyone. It is difficult. It is tough. I do not fault people for having strong feelings about the ending. But, for my part, I believe this is a beautiful, heartbreaking, and harrowingly beautiful film. ALL of the actors are simply amazing. But the chemistry between the two leads...my God. Breathtaking. I'm normally not the biggest ugly crier, but I was at the end of this movie. Admittedly, I was wailing at the end. I cried big, cathartic tears. A must watch.

Absolutely brilliant. A triumph and a must-see. Some of the best acting, cinematography, and scenic brilliance I've seen in a long, long time.

An excellent watch. Anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time in academia will find many of the characters and storylines relatable. While many things are--of course--dramatized and exaggerated, several things are actually spot on. That older, tenured professor who refuses to teach anything new and who refuses to retire, with syllabi last updated in "Spring 1990"? Most of us who went to graduate school (especially in the humanities) certainly had one. The never-ending hoop of academic bureaucratic BS? Anyone with a post-nominal jumped through way too many of those. And that one professor who always stood by their students and "stuck it to the man"? Oh yes. Thankfully--most of us had one of those, too. Sandra Oh is a marvel and Holland Taylor is just perfect.

An absolute triumph. Brilliant acting, moving story.
