In my opinion, aunty Donna shines in the niche and coffee cafe gives that to you in some of the most surprising and clever jokes. Only on this show, and this show alone will you be able to find a sketch where the actor Richard Roxburgh playing the titular character 'Rake' from the niche Australian tv show gets violently upset that someone isn't on "team tomato" from the Australian adaptation of 'ready steady cook' even though tomatoes and capsicums are not teams but a system for voting. And this isnt even the full extent of what they do with Rake.
The criticisms laid against the show are fair. Perhaps some of the jokes fall flat or come off forced at times and some cameos feel underutilized, but it still meets the high quality standard you usually get from the group. This is solidly written and even the worst jokes/bits are well performed, has good budget, adds to the plot of the show's sitcom-like episodic premise, or earns at least a small smile. I don't get the impression that the boys worked any less than they did on any other project and I'm sure they pulled out all the stops for this. By no means is this worthy of 1 star and I would recommend this to friends even if they haven't seen any of their previous work.
