Sex sells like nothing else, right Imitiaz Ali and team ?!
In the name of portraying a “weak” and exploited woman who explores her
sexuality and faces her fears; it seems like the makers of the series have taken the opportunity to turn the character into a piece of meat ..... she is literally treated like a piece of meat throughout ..... there is depth in why the character allows herself to be treated that way indeed but I don’t think there is a necessity to get into the vulgar details of her sexual exploitation.
Its worrying how rape scenes are portrayed in such graphical detail these days in the name of freedom of expression in media today. Why are we sensationalising abuse on women ?
Content such as SHE is only bound to incite the curiosity of the average Indian male who then wants to project all his desires on the regular woman walking on the streets while the starlets and celebrities are safe inside their cars .....
SHE subtly reinforces ideas such as “ ladki ke na mein hi haan hai” .... no woman ever suddenly and magically discovers her sexual passion whilst under a sexual assault ! Some scenes are just a joke and disrespectful to women and especially those who have been abused...
Serious issues such as sexual exploitation, marital rape , prostitution have been reduced to opportunities to infuse more sexual scenes....
Incredibly irresponsible on the part of the censor board (incase they were involved in approving this) for approving unnecessary and vile content .....
The only thing not turning this into some vulgar graphic material is the characters troubled background which the makers visit time and again to justify the screenplay...
That being said , great performance by the lead but for a wasted cause....
