Very impressed by this show.
While it does contain sci-fi tropes, such as humanism and science-ism, there are still many good values presented throughout the show -- self-sacrifice, community, and repentance. For Christian audiences, I recommend reading Fr. Seraphim Rose's section on Sci-Fi in his book, "Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future", to get a read on this show and Sci-Fi in general.
I think the creators of the show did a good job at unfolding the plot organically, and the storytelling managed to synthesize many elements of existing Star Trek material and characters (both old and recent) into 20, 20-minute episodes. Some episodes are fast-paced, advancing the grand story arc, while some episodes are slower and take the viewer on a day excursion with the crew where something goes wrong and the crew have to work together to fix it (a classic Star Trek motif). What really impressed me is that even though they did use classic Star Trek/Sci-Fi motifs for even the overarching plot, they did it in a way that was, as a whole, creatively unique.
This series is also a great introduction to Star Trek in general, as they explain common things that are present in other Star Trek content -- communicators, UFP, Holodeck, transporters, etc etc.
The soundtrack is pretty good too! I think it hearkens to the style of JJ Abrams' work. Even in the application, for example in one instance, there is a scene similar to the Enterprise rising up, with the main theme track.
Overall, a somewhat hidden gem for both adults and children to enjoy. Looking forward to Season 2!
