Very disappointed. I was really looking forward to this film, especially as I teach music theatre and grew up with the 1961 film.
I found Ansel Elgort boring and the acting in general was quite 'laboured' for the most part. I felt that Ansel hardly changed his facial expressions, even when he was meant to have found true love, he didn't really look over the moon!
Maria was lovely and far more credible, as was Anita and some of the gang members, but the best part for me was when Rita Moreno sang ' Somewhere'. Now that had atmosphere and I felt a connection.
Other than that and of course the fabulous music and dancing, I wasn't impressed.
For younger viewers, I am sure this will be a 5 star rating, especially if they haven't seen the original film.
