This riveting series explores the world of police corruption one shocking season to the next. Not preachy. Not politically correct. But a bit gritty, like real life. Not about serial killers. Not gross forensics etc. Just mental gymnastics to the maximum and fun fun fun. I often shriek out WHAT THE F*#@???
From the very first season -- first episode -- even the way they use the camera to give the feel of being filmed live -- you know this is something amazing and that it's different than anything you have ever seen.
The characters are all flawed. They all have good and bad aspects and some do grow and change a bit as seasons progress. Each season deals with a new theme for the AC-12 Unit (the equivalent of US Police Internal Affairs division - the department that overseas and investigates corruption within the police department).
Seasons have overarching themes, so watch them in order.
One of my favorite things is watching the amazing way the AC-12 conduct their interviews with suspects starting with wide general questions and slowly weaving the facts and encircling their 'prey' in a snare of lies of their own making.
Like any British TV crime drama of this caliber: you have to pay close attention.
Favorite line: "There's only one thing we're concerned with here, son, and that's bent coppers."
Use the Closed Captioning so you don't miss the conversations because there is a LOT going on.
Totally re watchable because of the dense plot lines.
This is NOT an Action Thriller (though there is action) but more of a slow burn, riveting, roller coaster ride.
The producers of this series seem to have deliberately compressed the seasons into fewer episodes than the usual 8-10 so that the tension is ratcheted up a notch.
Everyone has something to hide and a secret agenda in Line of Duty. You will love it.
