Disclaimer: The Director of Premaku Raincheck is a friend of mine.
There are several things that I loved in the movie. Foremost is his guts to make a movie all by himself without any prior experience. Knowing him well enough I can say with confidence that he does not do anything out of foolhardiness. He must have a been keen observer and a student of a cinema all through his life for him to get the confidence to boldly venture into film-making.
The movie has many firsts, starting with the title. How many can dare to name a movie with a word which most of the audience have never heard of it? One of the main selling points of the movie is the title itself. It goes well with the story of the movie. Secondly, he did a great job while screening at audition. He discovered two new faces and believed in them. These two new actors came across very intelligent (compared to what we normally see in the Telugu Industry) in the movie. Nowhere in the movie, Wiki and Ramya make you feel that they merely saying the dialogues written by somebody else. All through the movie, they gave me the feeling that they are vey much capable to say the same thing if you happen to meet them casually.
In couple of places, I read the production values of the movie were good. Yes, they are really good. If you take into account that this is AP's first movie and done in a limited budget, the production values are superb. The movie is simply worth watching for those. All songs were beautifully picturised and not even one of them seemed to be out of place. The trick the director played to create the situation for Pranama song is brilliant. We are going to see more of this trick used by other directors too in their movies. Ramya room-mates can give any Big Boss Contestant run for their money. In fact the conversations were much more interesting and engrossing than any Big-Boss episode. The Podiche Aa Poddhullona song is brilliantly picturised. It is no less than an any advertisement made to sell adventure. Uttarkhand Government can just play this song with their own titles and asking people come to Uttarkhand to do all these. All songs had some freshness. Good Job by Raghu with lyrics and Deepak Kiran with Music. The trick of showing riddles on the screen and their answers is something that other directors will start using it. Generation Z and Multiplex Crowd may especially find Premaku Raincheck to their taste. The dialogues at least to me came across "brainy". I can go on with several things that I liked in this movie, but would like to add just two more. In the scene where Tanya and Wiki go on a drinking binge, the bottles were of Kingfisher and not those of Fosters or Tuborg. You may ask how does it matter. Yes, it does matter. Indian Beer is as good beer as any other beer out there. There is no need to drink a foreign beer just because it is a foreign. For all we know the "production values" employed by those companies may be inferior to those employed by UB. Also, I liked the way Wiki tries to make a point by saying that there are enough good universities in India to learn and not necessarily we have to go to foreign universities in search of quality education. Finally there is enough senti in the movie if one cares for it. Riti when she asks Gopi to marry her, it made me shed a tear. AP take a bow for making the movie. It doesn't matter how much money it makes at the box office. You made a good cinema honestly and gave birth to careers of quite a few through this movie.
