I prefer Good Kid, m.A.A.d City to this album, but only slightly. This album fuses R&B, jazz, funk, soul, hip-hop, and elements of blues ever so well. From the features to Kendrick's individual rapping to the producers, everyone does their party nearly perfectly. Prince and David Bowie have cited this album as inspirations in their music and art. Legends like this giving props to album shouldn't be taken lightly. From the concept and themes, to how they're portrayed through lyrics and instruments, Kendrick and the musicians do terrific jobs of executing such a complex and intriguing narrative. I do believe this album is a bit overrated though. People saying its the best album of all time or the decade, to saying there is no flaws or weaker songs. Flaws within this are some vocal changes and tones, as well as some of the off-beat flows, which alter the sonic pleasure. My least favorite song is easily Complexion (A Zulu Love). This song is just too simple and one dimensional compared to the other 15 tracks. Themes and messages are similar, but done way better in said 15 tracks. This is all my opinion, and not fact. I hope you agree and disagree with certain points. I also don't believe that the flaws are so major that it isn't a 5/5 stars. It has the longevity, impact, and influence that you cannot deny. Might not be the best of the 2010's for me, but definitely top 5.
