I saw this movie at the theater with my class back in 1968. I was in 7th grade and 13 years old. My school took us on a field trip to see Romeo & Juliet at 10 o'clock in the morning. Before the movie started, my whole class was mad because the theater did not open the concession stand for us that morning. We were not thrilled about seeing Shakespeare as it was..and we all wanted popcorn, candy & soda. But, we got nothing to eat or drink that morning. We were all pouting during the concession stand commercials shown before the movie..since we couldn't understand why they were bothering to advertise their food & drinks. They weren't going to sell us any. We discovered later..much to our dismay..that it was our school that requested no food or drinks..so our minds would stay focused on Romeo & Juliet. And..that may have been the best decision ever made. We fully concentrated on the movie..and what a movie it was!! WOW!! We all LOVED the movie!! There we sat..7th graders..enjoying Shakespeare in complete silence. That movie made me love & appreciate Shakespeare forever more. I ended up seeing the movie at the theater..2 more times back then. And now..I own the film on DVD..and have shared it with my children & grandchildren..changing their minds about Shakespeare as well. It is amazing what a great movie can do for a person's mind, heart & soul. Romeo & Juliet lives in me forever. Oh..and a little P.S..We were 7 graders..so we definitely giggled during the brief but unexpected nude scene..back in 1968. What a shock that was to a bunch of 13 year olds. Tee-hee!!
