Let me start off by saying that before watching this, I never really sat down and watched Star Trek before (so you could say this would be my first real impression of the franchise).
I give the character designs a 7/10, but their looks and personalities are growing on me. The character art style is what I’d expect from a comedic adaptation like this...but I have to say...the landscapes and vessel designs are CLEAN!! You could tell a lot of work was put into animating the final frontier here. The characters’ movements during intense moments are also on point. 9/10 easy!
The show itself keeps me entertained and excited to see the next episode. I like the interactions between the main four characters. (Boimler, Mariner, Tendi, and Rutherford). I’m actually wanting to see where the bond between Mariner and Boimler goes and more about the captain’s relationship with Mariner since they’re mother and daughter. The gags and jokes don’t always stick with me, but most manage to put a smile on my face. The plot to each episode involves some pretty cool action scenes that keep me on the edge of my seat. I can tell there’s even some Easter eggs referencing past Star Trek adaptations (even though most go over my head since, again, this is the first I’ve sat down and looked at Star Trek). Plot and characters 7.5/10.
As I’m 3 episodes in, I’m liking what I see!
