In theory Ad Astra means ‘World Eaters’. This film reminded me a lot of “2001 A Space Odyssey”. It is technically brilliant but so self-indulgent and downbeat as to be depressing, so protracted that you just want to leave the cinema, buy a hamburger and eat it, then come back to see if they have finally gotten to the point. Somewhere in among its 2 hour playing time there is a message about loving your family instead of just your job, which actually is really not much of a message at all. 2.5 stars, and if not for the technical brilliance it would be just 1.
