Sooo, I’m either totally effed up, recently desensitized by the extreme true life horror currently all over Netflix by way of tortured kitties and 8 year olds mercilessly abused to death by their parents assisted by social workers, or maybe I’m just experiencing side affects of the cabin fever inducing apocalypse 2020, but I really enjoyed this crazyAss film.. I wasn’t sure if I was starting a Thriller, a doc or a mocK but it quickly became so clear during the police and world’s sh*ttiest profiler interviews that there was no way this happened or was trying to be serious.. IMO if a low budget cagey gritty horror film bad guy binged watched a couple of seasons of criminal minds and mind hunter and then made a doc about his life, this would be it, with him as the hero and only one with a slight intelligence.. Very slight.. Now he does have some super creepy moments but mixed are undeniably hilarious behaviors that go so over the top his scariness goes out the window... and then flies right back and gets splattered on your face.. The ridiculousness and pure stupidity of the authorities was so disturbingly funny (horrifyingly the most realistic aspect of this movie) I would find myself laughing and then suddenly dropped into the super cheesy “sex dungeon”. Still funny in the way old campy horror movies are but this one took you past that just enough to try to make you feel bad for laughing.. but not really.. the severe stupidity displayed by everyone in this movie, (from the victims and their families to the tech guy forced to singlehandedly watch 2400 hours of human torture) can be related to “oh they didn’t know any better then”, but it is just outlandish enough for you to safely enjoy it as a really effed up parody.. and maybe even a little “oh they’ve got it coming”. The admiration of the killer by the complete idiots in pursuit of him is so intentionally exaggerated and obvious we can’t help but think back on every forensic murder show we’ve ever seen and laugh uncomfortably.. So, if you are into horror and can take a little obvious gore and whole a lot of imagined gore, stomach the hand held camera and distortion, and are cynical and sarcastic enough to understand the underlying silliness and deeper meaning of something this outwardly disturbing, please watch it.. it’s a gem.. So enjoy, (or stay away) but most of all stay home and wash your hands out there! Lol
