Not trash, but I don’t quite understanding the praise this movie is getting. With themes like the results of terrible abuse, the subjugation of women through cruelty by undignified men and ignorant law enforcement I can see why Rotten Tomatoes has given this movie such a high score but the execution really fell flat for me. The first third of the film had decent acting and had me curious to what was transpiring then lead into an interesting reveal of the tunnel but after that we get thrown a curveball second act that really changed the tone, not in a good way, and the finale really had me wanting to gouge my eyes out. None of the actors had good chemistry in my opinion and I certainly couldn’t relate with anyone that has that bad decision making skills. The themes were right on the nose to an almost comical point, I felt like I was watching “The Rugrats” when the officers weren’t listening to anything the lead character was saying. All in all, it was at least an original horror film so that gets a little credit in my book these days but for me there were just too many dumb decisions that lead to worst decisions and by the end of the film I feel like I was the one who had made the bad decision by watching it.
