I think it's important to point out that the overwhelming majority of 1 star reviews are from people who have never actually played the game, and know very little of it beyond a handful of leaked cutscenes and fake text summaries. A large portion of these people are upset because the game contains a sizable amount of lgbt and minority representation.
On an objective level, this game is one of the most technically impressive ever made. The animations, the visuals, the audio. They are - by a considerable margin - the best we've ever seen in a video game.
The gameplay feels like a combination of the original Last of Us and Metal Gear Solid 5. There's a heavy emphasis on stealth (at least on the harder difficulty settings) and the game gives a lot of freedom in how to approach the encounters. You can sneak by, charge in, run past everyone, or try to get two groups of enemies to kill each other.
The story's well-acted and continues the narrative of the original game. It heavily revolves around the decision Joel - the first game's protagonist - made at the end of that game. Some people will be upset because the game doesn't pull any punches. There are no shining knights. I enjoyed it, however, though I felt that some aspects of the narrative were rushed. In particular, it didn't feel like the game spent much time exploring the event that leads Ellie to go on her search for revenge
