Tonights opening interview of billionaire investor Ray Dalio was a big disappointment. Mr Dalio made two statements that I cannot believe did not prompt an adequate follow up:
1. Mr Dalio rightfully believes the American income gap is a big problem and the fix is to tax the wealthy, like himself. I agree and the topic deserves some further investigation. How much tax should be collected and from whom? Where do the tax dollars go and who gets them? How does the wealth tax actually fix the root problem of wealth distribution in America?
2. This one really blew me away: Mr Dalio believes American capitalism is dead and needs to be replaced. This statement comes from a self-made billionaire still running his investment firm today. No 60 Minutes follow up to this statement at all.
Not what I call a hard-hitting interview. 60 Minutes can and should do better.
