Really disappointing.
I was looking forward to playing Pokémon again and Pokémon Sword was simply deflating.
I have casually played since Leaf Green circa 2004. For me, the most enjoyable part of previous generations was the plots, the challenge and catching Pokémon that I liked the appearance and moves of. I wasn’t diehard about animations or “catching them all” - Pokémon has always been for me a fun way to switch off.
Why I do not recommend Pokémon Sword:
• Way too easy (you saw everything on the map, you were always too many levels above wild Pokémon/gyms/even the champion, it told you which moves were the most effective, you had exp share - I didn’t lose any matches which I hated!)
• Very few aesthetically pleasing or interesting Pokémon
• Essentially no plot or side plots
• No interesting towns or people
• The Dynamax was not cool and unnecessary- you always knew when your opponent was going to use it making it redundant
• No “evil” team like previous generations
• Journey from town to town was tiny (I think the much larger “Wild Area” was supposed to make up for this but that was fairly boring)
• I just hated it
I literally have tried to force myself to play this game in hope that it gets better, but I can’t be bothered to finish.
Just replay your old games if you are wanting some good old fashioned Pokémon nostalgia.
