To call this a movie seems categorically inaccurate. This is much more like a “film experience” because it lingers with you, just on the edge of your mental periphery, well after it’s over. I can see how some would find this dull, but the lack of action is pivotal for establishing the anxiety-inducing tension present for almost the entirety of the film. The pure confusing, unsettling creepiness of Skinamarink makes you feel like not only are the undeserving children cursed but the entire film itself is cursed. The only reason for 4/5 stars instead of 5/5 is because there are a few parts that could’ve been shaved down a bit to give this film a little bit better pacing, because let’s face it an hour and 40 minutes is a little long for a film of this style.
