I watched this film with family and they enjoyed it, I however did not. The one good thing I can say about this film is that they removed the racial stereotypes of most period films. The roles were played by people of all races in diverse parts, not something that usually happens in these types of films. Other than that it was hideous. It was like someone decided to put Jane Austen on tiktok. It was cringy and predictable and the a the characters were annoying. Anne looked as if she'd broken up with Frederick a week ago and then changed her mind, not as if she had been depressed over the loss of him for 8 years. She was also an alcoholic which didn't really fit much in the story, it just seemed like they wanted to make her relatable. It is just another cringy romance movie and some may enjoy it but if you are looking for a period drama/romance you won't find it in this. The best I can say is that it was a little more realistic and not as picture perfect as others.
