As a movie, it was... enjoyable. As a Star Wars flick it was horrible. The movie moved so fast as if they had 6 hours of content that they tried to cram into a 2.5 hour movie. Every scene was rushed, and could have done so much more to go in depth on the new planets, new characters, but all we get a quick taste before we are whisked off to a new place and a new person and left just wonder... what just happened?!
The whole empires being still left alive is still left unexplained, and the whole “I created snoke” thing with the vat of two more snokes in a tank makes us what wonder what for? The unknown planet we’ve never heard of before, where he has amassed a giant fleet, completely manned by personnel wearing the same uniforms as the first order, but still completely unrelated makes one question where did they all come from?
The weird connection between Rey and Kylo allows them to have saber fights vs each other... from two different locations somehow which makes a good visual for us, but in reality has two people swinging their lightsabers around and empty room by themselves. Would be an comical site to see from that perspective.
Finally we have Rey being able to heal anything from giant underground snakes to lightsaber wounds with the force. After stabbing Kylo, who surprisingly is the only one in the film able to be run through with a lightsaber and not instantly die, Rey lovingly heals him. Where did she learn this? That would’ve been a neat trick for Obiwan to know, then Quigon would still be alive! Or mast Yoda could’ve saved many Jedi! However while being trained by Leia who also isn’t a full Jedi, they somehow figured out the force power. Even better, after Rey dies, Kylo also finally discovered how to brings over back from death! We’ve heard about darth Plageous doing such things, but it took centuries of Sith to discover such things. However Kylo discovered it all by his little self.
The lightsaber fights are sloppy, no finesse or technique just people swinging lightsabers at each other as hard as they can. But compared to the empowered, these saber fights fall far short. And the Emperor tries once again to electrocute someone to death, however when the electricity bounces back, just like in Ep III, he fails to stop and shocks the snot out of himself yet again. For being so powerful and wise you’d think he’d learn a new trick because that one clearly doesn’t work.
So so much more is wrong with this movie but I will leave it here. I was disappointed, and I will be staying a Star Wars legends fan. Disney and the new Lore have ruined Star Wars. Legends and the EU are so much better.
