I’ve read all of the books many years ago. I did not expect the series to follow the books exactly but after watching the first 3 episodes I felt like it was a completely different story. Like I said, I read the books many years ago so I decided to read the first book again just to see if my memory was off. I really have enjoyed reading the Eye of the World again. It takes a little while to get into it and at some points the story moves slower than I would like. It’s a good story about ignorant (meaning sheltered and not worldly) teens coming of age and growing up with a background of good versus evil and how the good also have the capacity and temptation for evil. I don’t get any of that from the series. It has made changes that didn’t need to be made to the point of changing who the characters are in an effort to fit with the common tropes of today. I’m saddened that Robert’s widow has allowed them to tarnish and change such a great story. It doesn’t do his story justice. If you haven’t read the books it might be mildly entertaining and worth a watch. If you have read the books, go into it knowing it’s not the same story and maybe not even the same world. You’re less likely to be disappointed that way. I was really hoping for a great fantasy series but it’s too filled with modern cultural biases. I guess they forgot it’s supposed to be a different world. Booo! is what I’ll end with.
